We recently became the proud adopters of Evelien, the pygmy hippo of Blijdorp Zoo - Rotterdam Zoo.

Logic Vision recently became a proud adoption partner of Diergaarde Blijdorp's pygmy hippo. The pygmy hippo, named Evelien, has recently become an important part of Diergaarde Blijdorp's research to help the species in the wild. Partly due to the involvement of adopters, Diergaarde Blijdorp is able to cooperate in this type of conservation projects.

Diergaarde Blijdorp contributes to an IBREAM foundation research project that uses tracker dogs to search for endangered pygmy hippos. In the wild, the species is found in the dense forests of West Africa. The exact population is unknown because too few sightings are made. But that is where tracker dogs can help... Tracker dog Boyd travelled to the Ivory Coast after being trained at Blijdorp, among other places.

The assumption, due to previous studies, is that the largest population is in Taï National Park, in Côte d'Ivoire. They are also found in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The very rough estimate is that just over 1,000 animals remain in the wild. The pygmy hippo has a key function in the forest, as they are seed dispersers of all kinds of plants and trees. Those seeds, in turn, are needed for the ecosystem and for the endangered monkey species living there. If nothing is done, the species will become extinct.

Link your organisation to a special species or plant that fits your mission and vision and adopt an animal, plant or piece of nature in Blijdorp Zoo.With your support, you contribute to the welfare of the animals and to conservation projects to protect their natural environment. Your adoption also enables them to introduce special animals and plants to as many people as possible.
